Let’s begin!
Let’s start with the basic instruments needed in a dental clinic:
The following dental instruments should not be missing from every dentist’s examination tray:
Dental examination mirrors
As its name indicates, it is essential as an instrument for exploring the patient’s mouth, in addition to separating the oral walls and illuminating the area where the intervention is performed by reflection. It consists of three parts: handle, stem and head. They are very useful due to their small size and their great adaptability to get a good vision of work.
Probes
The probe is that instrument that ends in a long and fine point and we can find two types:
Periodontal probe: is a basic instrument in dentistry, made of stainless steel, used to determine the state of the periodontium, to assess the gingival margin and the hemorrhagic response to pressure. Specifically, they are used to detect the periodontal pocket if it exists, and determine its depth.
Exploration probe: it is a more classic but at the same time basic instrument that is used to determine the level of bacterial plaque, the existence of cavities, etc.
Dental Tweezers
A dental tweezer is a basic instrument used in dentistry for a wide variety of tasks: they serve both to separate tissues, hold them, to suture, and transport small objects into or out of the oral cavity of it…Depending on the task to be performed, there are different types of tweezers: surgical, for ligatures, hemostatic.
Pliers
The dental pliers are an instrument used in dentistry for a multitude of treatments, especially in orthodontics and in the laboratory, such as cutting wires and pins, bending hooks, etc. There are many types depending on the function to be performed, and to cut materials such as plaster or cements, and with different types of tips.
Next, the Rotary Instruments and apparatus.
The rotary instrumentation , is composed of those instruments that carry out rotation movements at different speeds in order to move a dental bur placed at its end. For their operation they must be connected to the hoses of the dental equipment, for which there are different couplings depending on the type of connection.
Turbines
A dental turbine is a rotating instrument that is driven by air compression directly through the dental unit hose through a coupling. Of all the rotating material, it is the one with the highest speed but the lowest torque. It is indicated for jobs that require greater resistance to treatment, remove hard tissue from the tooth such as enamel or prosthetic material
Micromotors
The micromotors are devices used in dentistry for the treatment of semi-hard dental tissues. The dental micromotor is a motor that works at low speed that is attached to the handpieces, contra-angle and hose pieces, thus facilitating the treatment of the tooth.
Handpieces
Dental handpieces are rotary instrument elements made up of a straight handle with an axis inside that is capable of transmitting the rotation of a micromotor to the dental burs. It may or may not have external irrigation, and LED light, depending on the range of these, they will have more or less characteristics. They have two parts: the head, where the drill is placed, which contains the irrigation system; and the body, with a rough surface to facilitate grip, attached to the equipment by a hose system. It must be taken into account that dental burs for Handpieces have a special connection. Therefore, turbine or contra-angle dental burs are not compatible.
Dental Contra Angles
It is oriented for endodontic treatments and prophylaxis. It is used for the removal of dentin or for polishing teeth, as well as for the preparation of cavities, crowns and removal of fillings, always connected to a micromotor. There are different types of contra-angles classified in 3 colors, in this section you will find mostly blue with 1:1 direct transmission or reducing green depending on each clinical case. The speed of rotation and the torque allow constant work, generating effective results.
Dental Lights-Curing Lamps
Dental light-curing lamps are used in dentistry to light-cure restorative dental materials that are activated by a high-intensity light source that causes them to harden in a short period of time. The most common dental procedure in the clinic where these instruments are used is in dental restoration with light-curing composites for effective filling of the cavity.
Apex Locator
The Apex Locators are dental endodontic devices that measure the impedance, frequency and resistance of the surrounding material to locate the working length of the root canal to be endodontic. An apex locator consists of a monitor that is attached by two cables to a lip hook and the endodontic element (the file). In Dentaltix the professional can find the complete kit or each element separately.
Large appliances and machinery for dental clinics:
Autoclaves: Autoclaves are thick-walled containers that seal hermetically so that they can withstand high pressure. This allows sterilization to be carried out by means of steam at a temperature higher than 100ºC. With an autoclave in a dental clinic you can remove microorganisms and their spores from the material used. There are different classes such as Class B, Class S and Class N. If you want to know what Dentaltix recommends, we recommend you take a look at the following post: “Autoclaves: how to choose the best one for your dental clinic?”
X-Rays: X-rays are responsible for generating images of the interior of the body by means of X-rays or ultrasound of magnetic fields, necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and malformations. The radiodiagnostic technique can be intraoral (periapical, coronal or occlusal) or extraoral (to observe lesions outside the oral cavity) and materials such as phosphor plates or Developers are needed to obtain a good image.
And as for the clinical furniture…
Cabinet lamps:Cabinet lamps are an instrument essential in dental clinics to do a correct job in the most comfortable way. It is made up of an articulated arm and the head, designed with a concave surface that reflects halogen or LED light, at a suitable Kelvin temperature and as naturally as possible, helping both the professional without tiring the eyes, to identify realistic colors in the treatments as well as in comfort for the patient. These lamps can be both floor and wall mounted.
Dental Clinic Stools: Medical stools for dental clinics are an important decision, since the dentist must carry out his work in the most comfortable way possible, ergonomics is essential and good tripod support to avoid long-term ailments. Depending on the comfort that the dentist wants or the tasks that he wants to perform, there are different types of stools: with or without armrests, specific for operating rooms.
Dental chairs with dental unit:Purchasing the dental chair For dental clinics, it can include only the chair or form a whole unit with the handpiece equipment of habitual use (micromotor, contra-angle, turbine, ultrasound, etc.) together with other types of basic elements such as control panels, autoclaves, water distillers, glass filling, etc.
