Tips for the maintenance of rotary instruments in your dental clinic

Tips for the maintenance of rotary instruments in your dental clinic

We know that the purchase of rotating instruments can be an important but necessary investment for your dental clinic. That is why we are going to provide you with a series of tips for the correct maintenance and care of contra-angle handpieces, turbines and handpieces in the clinic. With these tips you will ensure their correct functioning, extend their useful life and reduce repairs and consequent expenses in your dental clinic. But above all, it is very important that you always take into account the indications of the manufacturer of the AC, turbine or handpiece. Because the maintenance is not always the same between different brands.

The basic maintenance, common to all manufacturers of rotary instruments for dental practice, is as follows:

Cleaning: Clean your rotating instruments regularly. Preferably after each use, even if not sterilized, as this will guarantee maximum hygiene and thus avoid cross-contamination. Maintenance and sterilization do not cause damage to suitable instruments. We recommend cleaning and greasing them at least twice a day; after each sterilization and after a long period of non-use.

Lubrication: In addition, if you have used a contra-angle handpiece for a cleaning, you must lubricate it immediately with polishing paste. The particles that make up the cleaning paste, due to their abrasive power, penetrate into the mechanisms of the contra-angle head, which can cause early mechanical wear.

Steps for the correct maintenance of dental rotary instruments:

STEP 1: Rinse the rotary instrument with plenty of cold or warm water to remove debris. Please note the following:

It is advisable to use a brush with soft bristles to avoid damaging the product.
DON’T use hot water, as this can cause blood to clot inside the instrument and block the bearings and the clamp.
DON’T use chemicals or abrasives, because they will damage the outer surface of rotating instruments, cause a deterioration in their appearance, and can remove the inner layer of lubrication.
DON’T immerse the instruments in disinfectant liquids, because they corrode their mechanical parts in a very short time.
DON’T use disinfectant wipes or alcohol for external cleaning or disinfection of dental instruments. This is due to the fact that the steam penetrates through the internal holes, corrodes the bearings and destroys the materials very quickly.

STEP 2:Lubricate the instrument:

It is essential that you use lubricant for the maintenance of your materials in the dental clinic. For this, it is important to use aerosol oils of very good quality, preferably 100 % synthetic, as they offer many technical advantages and help to extend the useful life of your instruments. The price of synthetic oils is not usually higher than that of traditional mineral oils.

At Dentaltix we offer you some lubricants so that you can get the most out of your rotary instruments:
When carrying out any cleaning, disinfection and maintenance task, it is important that you take into account the Lubricare and Assistina that perform these functions automatically and speed up the processes, since they provide you with a time saving, unlike if it was done manually.

For the lubrication of the instrument, it is important that you always use the adapter that corresponds to the coupling system you are using. For the correct lubrication of contra-angle handpieces and handpieces you need an “INTRA” adapter . To get the optimum penetration to the deepest recess and in the right amount, using it without a nozzle is a waste of expensive oil and dirtying the equipment, outside. You can choose your adapter depending on the materials you are going to lubricate, as is the case of the adaptor nozzles for spray by MK-Dent Adapters for lubricants.

How to lubricate your rotary instruments correctly?

First lubricate for 1 second from the access of the bur to the inside of the head. This step is key to removing all debris left inside the clamp that is not otherwise removed. At least once a week, after this operation use an interproximal brush to make two or three entries in the clamp and clean it deeply.

Finally, insert completely the adapter through the back of the instrument, and grease the instrument for several seconds, until the oil comes out completely clean through the holes in the head. If the head of your contra-angle handpiece is detachable, grease the two parts separately, each with its corresponding adapter.
Should the turbine, contra-angle or handpiece be sterilized?

First of all, check that the instrument is suitable to be sterilized in autoclave and/or thermodisinfected. If the manufacturer recommends doing so, you can usually sterilize your rotary instruments in an autoclave up to 135º C. Preferably in a class “B” autoclave. Never use heat cycles to dry your rotary instruments.

How to store the rotary instruments in the clinic?

After maintenance, store your instruments completely dry, in a clean and dry place.
Other tips for the maintenance of rotary instruments in the clinic that will save you a lot of money:

Finally, it is very important that if you notice any anomaly in the functioning of your rotary instruments in the clinic, do not use it and call your trusted technician to review it.

Use good quality drills, as they have standardized stems with a very small manufacturing tolerance. If the shank is out of tolerance, it skids inside the clamp when pressing and wears out in a very short time.
Discard very worn drills. This is advisable because when not cutting well, they require a higher pressure, which is transmitted to the bearings, heats them, carbonizes them and discards them very early. It is also possible that you could run the risk of the bur “grabbing” the clamp and not being able to remove it.

Never actuate the push button to change the drill while the instrument is rotating, thus avoiding unnecessary wear of the push parts of the button.

Also, make sure that the air that reaches the instruments is completely dry. It is recommended that you install a dryer in the compressor of the clinic.

What are the benefits of the Multiplier Contra-angle compared to the Turbine?

What are the benefits of the Multiplier Contra-angle compared to the Turbine?

As we all know what is a Multiplier Contra-angle handpiece and a Dental turbine, in this new article we wanted to tell you how this first instrument is increasingly replacing the turbine and the real benefits it has. Watch out, we have interesting content to choose the best broadcasting company in oman!

As the turbine and the contra-angle are two of the most important rotary instruments in your daily activity, we wanted to expand and offer you useful information that can make your treatments more practical, such as: do they both have the same lifetime? Why is the CA multiplier changing the dental industry? Now, we’ll tell you everything.

What are the main differences between a Multiplier Contra-angle and a Turbine?

Both instruments have in common their use in the preparation of hard tooth substance and denture materials. They do so in an air-driven manner, depending on the requirements of ergonomics and efficiency, but they have notable differences:

  1. Dental turbines are powered by air. Compared with an CA multiplier, they are lighter, they do not need any additional electric motor, nor any control.
  2. The turbine is driven by a small rotor and for this reason its power is limited. It is not possible to adjust its speed.
  3. The high-frequency noise of the turbine is annoying and sometimes very unpleasant for patients.
  4. The turbine can cause high heating in the tooth and wears out faster.
  5. The multiplier contra-angles can be adjusted in a range of 10,000 to 200,000 rpm, which allows for better cutting and finishing precision. They can also be used in treatments where a turbine and an additional CA would have been necessary for air drives.
  6. The multiplier Contra-angle offers a constant and adjustable speed, in addition the noise is much less than that of the turbine, so it is not annoying.
  7. These CAs must be powered by an electric motor, so it is slightly heavier and less lightweight than an air-powered dental turbine.

And what about the types of connections of a Multiplier Contra-angle?

The multiplier contra-angle is connected to a micromotor, and this in turn to the hose. Therefore, in order to know the type of connection required, it is advisable to know the type of micromotor to be used

  • Electric micromotor: in this case they need a special hose, exclusive to a specific brand or model, which is connected to the control unit from where the dentist can modify the parameters according to the requirements of the treatment to be carried out.
  • Pneumatic micromotor: it is the most economical option and for this type of micromotor there would be three types of connections: Midwest (this system incorporates four ways, in which the water enters and leaves the instrument), Borden 2 and Borden 3 (The Borden system only has two ways.).

Why does the multiplier contra-angle replace the turbine today?

After some time, we know that contra-angles handpieces are the preference of many dentists because of all the advantages they have, but also, after the Covid-19 situation, they have insisted on using this instrument much more since it generates less amount of aerosol than a turbine, thus avoiding any possible contagion in the clinic.

Another remarkable feature is the noise and vibration: multiplier contra-angles are much quieter than turbines. On the one hand, its design is comfortable and allows for treatment without distractions. They are fully disinfectable and sterilizable devices, which extends their useful life over time and they break down less than turbines. On the other hand, its speed is constant and adaptable and can be multiplied by a factor of five.

Can the CA multiplier carry out all the treatments that are carried out with the turbine?

As you already know, the turbine is widely used to carve the stump and place the crown, also to prepare cavities with diamond burs, but thanks to the electrical drives of the contra-angles and handpieces including multiplier contra-angles, can be used as an alternative to turbines. Therefore, with both drive systems it is possible to cover all the speed ranges necessary for the treatment. Therefore, the answer is yes, always taking into account the differences that we have named above, always assessing what best suits your needs.

Do they have the same lifetime? What products to use for correct maintenance?

Yes, the turbine and the multiplier contra-angle have the same useful life if they are properly cared for day after day. The two instruments are subjected to high stresses due to their treatments and hygiene and care processes. They are made up of many materials that must be cleaned and cared for thoroughly on a daily basis, they also need adequate lubrication to prevent and avoid wear. A good cleaning will provide more useful life for your instruments, take care of them!.

What are the products needed for this maintenance? We tell you: Spraynet for cleaning, Lubrifluid for proper lubrication and Aquacare for cleaning irrigation tubes.

Do all multiplier contra-angles come with light?

In this case, the answer is no. Depending on the model or brand, CA multipliers can include or not a LED light. In addition, another important fact to keep in mind is that they are easy to identify because they contain a red ring.

PRICE RANGE: Is a multiplier contra-angle more expensive than a turbine?

As with most products, the prices of both instruments vary according to the materials, manufacturers or functions, but the turbines are cheaper than the CA multipliers. For example, the price of turbines is around €100-500, while a contra-angle varies from €500 to €1,000 depending on the model. High-end CAs are around €1,000 and offer you maximum speed, perfect lighting, ceramic bearings, very small heads for areas that are difficult to access, and long-term warranty plans. But if you decide to buy a cheaper CA, you can find them with very good value for money and meeting all the demands that the treatments require.

Common points of multiplier Contra-angles

Comparing Contra-Angles of different brands such as Bien Air, NSK, W&H, we took several points in common that these instruments will always have even if they are from different manufacturers:

  • Ergonomics: they all fit excellently in the hand and are designed to make treatment as comfortable as possible for the dentist. Highly lightweight.
  • Weight: an average of 90 grams.
  • Maximum speed: 200,000 rpm.
  • Manufacturing materials: stainless steel.

As you can see, there are many benefits when performing a treatment if we choose a CA multiplier and not a turbine, so we want to know your opinion: do you prefer a turbine or CA? if you have used the CA instead of the turbine what did you think? We would be delighted to receive your comments! In addition, we can help you if you have any questions about this post.

Choosing the ideal finishing materials for your dental clinic: balancing functionality and aesthetics

Choosing the ideal finishing materials for your dental clinic: balancing functionality and aesthetics

Are you building your new dental clinic or are you planning to? You are in the right place! Because in this article we will tell you about the relevance of finishing materials for your dental office, and why this appropriate selection of materials to cover the walls, ceilings and floors is crucial to transmit a sensation of hygiene, safety and comfort to your patients, and of course, to facilitate cleaning and disinfection. You want to know more? Here are all the key points for choosing the best broadcasting company in oman.

What characteristics should the floors of the dental clinic have?

We will start by talking about the main characteristics that the floors of our dental clinic must have. We must select hygienic flooring, easy to clean and highly durable, without forgetting its aesthetic appearance. The floors of the clinic must be stable in terms of mobility, not slippery, without irregularities, or dangerous slopes.

To select a floor, Additionally to the aesthetic aspect, its ease of cleaning and its cost, there are other factors to take into account, such as resistance to wear, resistance to chemical products (spills of liquids and substances, cleaning products, etc.) and resistance to environmental factors. In addition, it is advisable that it absorbs vibrations and noise; resist moisture and temperature changes and have low thermal and electrical conductivity. Taking all this into account, we recommend the use of high-pressure laminates or highly durable vinyl or PVC floors.

High Pressure Laminates allow a multilayer composition that increases the physical-mechanical properties of traditional laminates.
High Durability Vinyl Floors, or better known as PVC, are characterized by their great resistance to abrasion, their impermeability and their easy cleaning. In addition, the absence of pores reduces the permanence of bacteria on its surface and makes it an extremely hygienic surface.

What characteristics should the walls and ceilings of the dental clinic have?

Another fundamental aspect that we must pay close attention to is the maintenance of our ceilings and walls. An optimal hygiene of both places will favor the image that we offer to our patients and will prevent the proliferation of organisms and infections.

We recommend the use of walls that have a smooth finish, without joints, in order to facilitate cleaning and disinfection. In this sense, the use of epoxy or polyurethane paints is vital, which are resistant to water, abrasion and impact, as well as having a high gloss and little yellowing. Another option is the placement of PVC coatings, which stand out for their great resistance, impermeability and easy cleaning and represent the ideal finish for those places that need to meet certain sanitary requirements.

Finally, it is advisable to use hygienic skirting boards, to try to ensure that the junction between the wall and the skirting board is produced in an aligned manner and prevents the accumulation of dust.

Regarding the ceilings, we must not forget that the patients will be lying upright for a long time and it will be their main vision. For this reason, we must take care of their appearance and paint them with light tones, preferably avoiding white.

For roofs, we recommend not using false ceilings or removable ceilings, in order not to interfere with the cleaning of the rooms.

What colours should we paint our dental clinic?

As for colours, it is very common to use cold colors such as white or blue, as they provide a sense of serenity and hygiene. However, the implantation of brighter colours that serve to arouse a greater feeling of joy in the patient is becoming more frequent. In this way, we can dare to use this type of colour, especially in the reception area and in the waiting room. Green and blue in soft tones, or gray combined with more vivid tones such as pink pale or peach may be a good choice. However, we must avoid strong red or orange tones that will make it difficult for our patients to relax.

For the area of consultations and laboratories we recommend colder colours. The choice of white or blue will always be a success, although we could well opt for the same colours that we use in the reception areas or waiting rooms but in lighter tones.

The most important thing is to keep in mind that cold, light and matte colors induce relaxation in our patients, so they are the most recommended to contribute to their maximum comfort.
What characteristics should the windows of the dental clinic have?

Windows are another fundamental aspect within the dental clinic, since its choice will decisively affect aspects such as lighting, thermal insulation, acoustic insulation and ventilation. In addition, for an adequate choice, we must take into account the size of our clinic, its functionality and the ease of maintaining proper care and cleaning. Therefore, depending on our needs, we have a wide range of window types with certain characteristics:

Sliding, which in addition to creating large glazed spaces, does not provide space problems while its opened.
With interior opening, which facilitates cleaning of the glass and favors the ventilation of the room.
Opening outwards, which do not take up space inside the room but make it difficult to clean.

The ideal windows for your dental clinic

As for the material, from here we recommend aluminium for some of its multiple characteristics: thermal insulation; acoustic isolation; wide variety of finishes, shapes and tones; durability and resistance and, of course, its easy cleaning.

Finally, for protection against the sun and to reduce the accumulation of dust, the most advisable thing is the use of protective films, thus avoiding the use of blinds and curtains that require greater and complex cleaning.

All the dental equipment that you must have in your dental clinic

All the dental equipment that you must have in your dental clinic

Our main objective is that at Dentaltix you can find all the necessary dental material for the day-to-day work of the clinic. That is why we have developed this article so that you can have a guide and review of all the basic materials used in a dental clinic. Either because you are thinking of opening your own dental clinic, or if you want to renew a particular product line and want to find out more, keep reading, this post is for you to choose the best broadcasting company in oman. Let’s begin!

Let’s start with the basic instruments needed in a dental clinic:

The following dental instruments should not be missing from every dentist’s examination tray:

Dental examination mirrors

As its name indicates, it is essential as an instrument for exploring the patient’s mouth, in addition to separating the oral walls and illuminating the area where the intervention is performed by reflection. It consists of three parts: handle, stem and head. They are very useful due to their small size and their great adaptability to get a good vision of work.

Probes

The probe is that instrument that ends in a long and fine point and we can find two types:

Periodontal probe: is a basic instrument in dentistry, made of stainless steel, used to determine the state of the periodontium, to assess the gingival margin and the hemorrhagic response to pressure. Specifically, they are used to detect the periodontal pocket if it exists, and determine its depth.
Exploration probe: it is a more classic but at the same time basic instrument that is used to determine the level of bacterial plaque, the existence of cavities, etc.

Dental Tweezers

A dental tweezer is a basic instrument used in dentistry for a wide variety of tasks: they serve both to separate tissues, hold them, to suture, and transport small objects into or out of the oral cavity of it…Depending on the task to be performed, there are different types of tweezers: surgical, for ligatures, hemostatic.

Pliers

The dental pliers are an instrument used in dentistry for a multitude of treatments, especially in orthodontics and in the laboratory, such as cutting wires and pins, bending hooks, etc. There are many types depending on the function to be performed, and to cut materials such as plaster or cements, and with different types of tips.

Next, the Rotary Instruments and apparatus.

The rotary instrumentation , is composed of those instruments that carry out rotation movements at different speeds in order to move a dental bur placed at its end. For their operation they must be connected to the hoses of the dental equipment, for which there are different couplings depending on the type of connection.

Turbines

A dental turbine is a rotating instrument that is driven by air compression directly through the dental unit hose through a coupling. Of all the rotating material, it is the one with the highest speed but the lowest torque. It is indicated for jobs that require greater resistance to treatment, remove hard tissue from the tooth such as enamel or prosthetic material

Micromotors

The micromotors are devices used in dentistry for the treatment of semi-hard dental tissues. The dental micromotor is a motor that works at low speed that is attached to the handpieces, contra-angle and hose pieces, thus facilitating the treatment of the tooth.

Handpieces

Dental handpieces are rotary instrument elements made up of a straight handle with an axis inside that is capable of transmitting the rotation of a micromotor to the dental burs. It may or may not have external irrigation, and LED light, depending on the range of these, they will have more or less characteristics. They have two parts: the head, where the drill is placed, which contains the irrigation system; and the body, with a rough surface to facilitate grip, attached to the equipment by a hose system. It must be taken into account that dental burs for Handpieces have a special connection. Therefore, turbine or contra-angle dental burs are not compatible.

Dental Contra Angles

It is oriented for endodontic treatments and prophylaxis. It is used for the removal of dentin or for polishing teeth, as well as for the preparation of cavities, crowns and removal of fillings, always connected to a micromotor. There are different types of contra-angles classified in 3 colors, in this section you will find mostly blue with 1:1 direct transmission or reducing green depending on each clinical case. The speed of rotation and the torque allow constant work, generating effective results.

Dental Lights-Curing Lamps

Dental light-curing lamps are used in dentistry to light-cure restorative dental materials that are activated by a high-intensity light source that causes them to harden in a short period of time. The most common dental procedure in the clinic where these instruments are used is in dental restoration with light-curing composites for effective filling of the cavity.

Apex Locator

The Apex Locators are dental endodontic devices that measure the impedance, frequency and resistance of the surrounding material to locate the working length of the root canal to be endodontic. An apex locator consists of a monitor that is attached by two cables to a lip hook and the endodontic element (the file). In Dentaltix the professional can find the complete kit or each element separately.

Large appliances and machinery for dental clinics:

Autoclaves: Autoclaves are thick-walled containers that seal hermetically so that they can withstand high pressure. This allows sterilization to be carried out by means of steam at a temperature higher than 100ºC. With an autoclave in a dental clinic you can remove microorganisms and their spores from the material used. There are different classes such as Class B, Class S and Class N. If you want to know what Dentaltix recommends, we recommend you take a look at the following post: “Autoclaves: how to choose the best one for your dental clinic?”

X-Rays: X-rays are responsible for generating images of the interior of the body by means of X-rays or ultrasound of magnetic fields, necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and malformations. The radiodiagnostic technique can be intraoral (periapical, coronal or occlusal) or extraoral (to observe lesions outside the oral cavity) and materials such as phosphor plates or Developers are needed to obtain a good image.

And as for the clinical furniture…

Cabinet lamps:Cabinet lamps are an instrument essential in dental clinics to do a correct job in the most comfortable way. It is made up of an articulated arm and the head, designed with a concave surface that reflects halogen or LED light, at a suitable Kelvin temperature and as naturally as possible, helping both the professional without tiring the eyes, to identify realistic colors in the treatments as well as in comfort for the patient. These lamps can be both floor and wall mounted.

Dental Clinic Stools: Medical stools for dental clinics are an important decision, since the dentist must carry out his work in the most comfortable way possible, ergonomics is essential and good tripod support to avoid long-term ailments. Depending on the comfort that the dentist wants or the tasks that he wants to perform, there are different types of stools: with or without armrests, specific for operating rooms.

Dental chairs with dental unit:Purchasing the dental chair For dental clinics, it can include only the chair or form a whole unit with the handpiece equipment of habitual use (micromotor, contra-angle, turbine, ultrasound, etc.) together with other types of basic elements such as control panels, autoclaves, water distillers, glass filling, etc.

How to Become a Medical Supplies Distributor?

How to Become a Medical Supplies Distributor?

How to Become a Medical Supplies Distributor?

Doctors and other medical professionals rely on high-quality equipment to treat patients. This equipment ranges from gloves and masks (PPE) to intricate niche tools used by specific surgeons, doctors and health professionals. Hospitals and office managers work closely with medical supply businesses to procure this equipment and ensure they always have the items they need.

With market size expected to reach 160 Billion USD by 2025, and a CRGA growth rate of 7.2 percent, it’s an opportunity to consider. Set yourself up for success by getting to know the ins and outs of starting a medical supply business.

Choose a medical niche or underserved market

Operating a medical supply business is no different from any other broadcasting company in oman in that you need to find what makes your brand unique. Once you know that, you can find your target market and work to set yourself apart from competitors. Ask questions like these to better understand what you bring to the industry:

Are you an expert in a medical niche and know what certain specialists need?
Are you an ex-doctor or medical professional with real-life medical experience?
Is there an underserved market that needs a reliable source of medical supplies?
Do you have an idea for getting supplies to doctors faster or better, like a subscription service or convenient online portal?

Not only will answering these questions help you establish your business, but it will also guide your marketing and help you secure funding.
Determine your business type

Once you have a business idea, you will want to form your company. Decide whether you want to operate as a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), C-Corporation, or S-Corporation. The type of business you choose will depend on your business structure and affect how you’re taxed, what fees you need to pay, whether or not you need to raise capital and more.

Work with a local accountant to help you decide what is best for your business and refer to the BizFilings business type comparison tool to get a better understanding of your options. Each state has its own guidelines and costs for forming a business, such as whether you need to produce annual reports or pay annual fees to stay operational. Knowing all of these details will help you choose the right business entity for your new medical supply venture.
Secure your operating licenses

In addition to registering your company, you need to secure business licenses and permits necessary for a medical supply business. Forming an LLC or C-Corp doesn’t necessarily mean you can legally operate, just that the state knows you exist—you must get your licenses or permits secured before beginning.

You can use the BizFilings’ Business License Wizard to identify which licenses would be relevant to your business and check with your local business regulations and requirements to ensure you have all the correct paperwork to begin operating. Note that fees will vary from state to state and may be based on annual revenue.
Fund your business

How to Become a Medical Supplies Distributor?

Important to any good business is accurate bookkeeping and a strong financial footing. You must have a clear understanding for how you plan to fund your medical supply company and how this funding will affect your budget now and in the future. A few funding options include:

Bootstrapping: This refers to relying solely on your own money.

Small business loan: To secure a loan, you’ll work with a financial lender to get financing.
Investors: With an investor, you’ll work with private entities to receive funds and then share part of your profits as your business grows.
Crowd-funding: Use a site like Kick-Starter to fund your business with donations from people around the world. This is a good option for companies with a socially-driven mission.

The viability of these medical supply financing options will vary depending on your business size and startup costs and, each option also has its own benefits and drawbacks. For example, you don’t have to share your profits or make interest payments by bootstrapping, but that may not be an option if you don’t have access to startup capital.
Identify vendors and distributors

The foundation of your business will be working closely with medical distributors and vendors. These are large-scale manufacturers who produce millions of supplies each year who then sell to distributors like yourself so you can market and sell the wares on a smaller scale. When choosing your supplier(s) and vendor(s), consider a few key factors:

Future innovation: Does your supplier have plans to grow and innovate in the coming years, ensuring that you stay relevant as a business as well?
Communication: How well are they at communicating with you? Are their terms and business details clear?
Expertise: How well do they know their market? How much can you benefit from their expertise?
Quality: Are they as committed to quality as you are?
Delivery systems: Will their delivery systems make it easier to run your business or are they complicated and difficult to manage?

Work with a medical supply mentor or expert to better understand the qualities of successful medical supply partners and determine which potential vendors and distributors would be best for your specific needs.
Build your business and market your brand.

Once you have established what your business is and how it operates, the only thing left to do is execute your business and marketing plan. During this period, you will open your warehouse, website or both, ensuring that you have a place to house the medical supplies and/or manage orders.

You also need to use this time to develop marketing materials and start reaching out to potential clients. Your industry may require different marketing methods, so be sure to do your market research first. This will help you dial in on who you want to target and how to best reach them.
Let us help you build a medical supply business

With the right planning, you can build a successful medical supply business. You don’t necessarily need a strong medical background to do this, just knowledge of what medical professionals need and a marketing plan to make them more effective at what they do.

French cosmetics company L’Oréal achieved €27.99bn ($33.93bn) in revenues from group sales in 2020, a 6.29% decline from €29.87m ($36.21m) in 2019. The company’s Consumer Products division contributed approximately 41.8% of the revenues while its L’Oréal Luxe division accounted for 36.33% of the sales. Approximately 22% of the revenue came from the Professional Products and Active Cosmetics businesses.

The sharp decline in profits was triggered by the supply chain disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The personal care giant was back on the growth track with a 4.8% like-for-like acceleration in sales in the fourth quarter of 2020. The widespread closure of points-of-sale was offset by L’Oréal’s strong performance in digital and e-commerce platforms, with the e-commerce business witnessing a 62% increase in sales and accounting for 26.6% of the entire sales in 2020.

L’Oréal is the world’s largest cosmetics group with a presence in 150 countries. The company creates and develops cosmetic products across skincare, haircare, make-up and perfumes. It has 36 brands in its portfolio, including L’Oréal Paris, Vichy, Garnier, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, Giorgio Armani Beauty, Ralph Lauren, Maybelline New York, and Biotherm.

2. Unilever

British multinational consumer goods company Unilever’s revenues fell 2.4% year-on-year to €50.7bn ($60.99bn) in 2020. The company’s Beauty & Personal Care segment registered the highest revenues among its various business units. The segment reported €21.1bn ($25.38bn) in revenue, which is approximately 41.61% of the total turnover. Approximately 20.71% of Unilever’s turnover came from the Home Care division, while the Foods & Refreshment business contributed the remaining 37.67%.

Strict lockdowns in India and China impacted the market environment in the first half of 2020, however, the relaxation of Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions in the two countries lead the company to return to the growth path. The company is experiencing rising demand for the consumption of food products at home in the wake of the pandemic while the sale of beauty and personal care products, except hygiene products, was affected by the reduced focus on personal grooming.

With an operational footprint in more than 190 countries, Unilever supplies products such as food, confections, soft drinks, tea, ice cream, energy drinks, coffee, laundry and household cleaning products, beauty and personal care, toothpaste, and healthcare products.

What Is a Cosmetics Distributor?

What Is a Cosmetics Distributor?

What Is a Cosmetics Distributor?

In its most basic sense, a cosmetics distributor is a person or company who organizes the delivery of cosmetics products from the manufacturer to the consumer. The biggest distribution companies interface with department stores and retail outlets to deliver merchandise from major manufacturers. Cosmetics sales also can form the basis of small businesses or home-based businesses. Sometimes, the phrase “cosmetics distributor” refers to a single person who sells and distributes cosmetics on a person-by-person basis.

In business, a distributor generally is an entity that is charged with delivering a product from its point of manufacture to its point of sale. In most cases, a cosmetics distributor is a company that works as something of a go-between for major makeup brands and stores. They usually are independent, meaning that they work as free agents and do not have loyalties with either party. Rather, they operate on a contract basis, providing an essential service and often little more.

Professional distributors usually manage shipping and process inventory databases to anticipate when stores are running low on certain products. People in this branch of the cosmetics industry usually work with stores to coordinate delivery, and they often help with unpacking and sorting merchandise on arrival. In some cases, distributors also are responsible for collecting unsold or discontinued merchandise for return to the manufacturer, although this largely depends on the terms of the contract.

A commercial cosmetics distributor company in oman is an essential part of all store-based cosmetics sales. Distributors are indiscriminate and exist for designer cosmetics as well as cheap cosmetics. Most of the time, they perform jobs for only one line at a time, but they usually are able to handle multiple clients at once.

Cosmetics distribution also is popular on a home-business level. This sort of work is completely different from large-scale corporate distribution. It centers on individual distributors whose job is selling cosmetics and makeup products to people in their communities and social circles.

What Is a Cosmetics Distributor?

To become a cosmetics distributor in this sense, a person usually must sign on as an independent vendor with the parent cosmetics line. Some companies call these professionals distributors, and others call them consultants, direct sales representatives or something similar. Regardless of the title, their function is small-scale distribution.

Most of the time, these distributors must personally purchase many types of cosmetics from the parent company. Then, they must sell these products, usually for a profit, and replace their stock with new purchases when needed. Most of the time, the distributor focuses on only a few types of makeup and related products to increase the likelihood of unloading all pre-purchased items. Cosmetics distributor positions in this category are often billed as very lucrative cosmetics jobs, but a lot depends on the salesperson’s personality, the interest and budget of the buyers and the general market saturation.

Where to get business opportunities as a distributor?

To have more options or opportunities to become a distributor of a certain product or company, specifically in the cosmetics industry, it is important to know where to go at the most precise moments in order to seek partnerships with other distributors to expand with each other and achieve much more profit.

Therefore, here we specify the main keys to find business opportunities as a distributor:

  • Through medium-sized companies that facilitate the distribution of cosmetic articles. Together with them, you can acquire more possibilities to sell because they are workplaces that need to rely on a network because they do not have the capacity to set up a structure in each country.
  • At trade fairs and conventions, since these sites allow you to find interesting concepts in terms of distribution to generate profits.
  • By tracking industry innovation in other countries, this is a solution that not only allows you to become a distributor, but also helps you to innovate in your area and capture the attention of your target audience.

How to contact the company chosen to be a cosmetics distributor?

Another essential step to become the distributor of a brand is to contact the company directly. If you bet on it, the chances of occupying this position will be greater.

Therefore, if you have the opportunity to participate in a fair with the company you want to exhibit the product, choose to talk directly with their representatives. This can be done from the sales area and once you find the interlocutor, just show your interest in their articles and exhibit your skills as a distributor so that they pay attention to you.

But, in case it is a company that you got after researching the cosmetics market, the best thing to do is to get as much information as possible and seek contact via phone or email with the sales department. This is not difficult as long as the companies are focused on selling and expanding their business.

Now, when presenting your business plan, in any case, it is best that you choose to prepare it beforehand. That is to say, you must present the entire distribution project that you can entrust and carry out to ensure good profits to the company and even you at the same time. You can do this by means of an exhaustive market study together with realistic sales estimates that show the potential of the Spanish market and based on this, show the best distribution option.

The key points of the contract to become a distributor of a cosmetics company

If the company is interested in your business plan, before reaching an agreement between the two of you, it is important that you negotiate some key points that should be included in your contract as a distributor of the brand and/or product. These elements are:

  • Exclusivity: With your proposal as a distributor, ideally you want to be the only one of the company for the Spanish territory. Emphasizing that, if you achieve this exclusivity, you can rely on other distributors at your command to get more profits and thus, make more sales in order to exceed the expectations of the company.
  • The type of commercial relationship: Keep in mind that being a commercial representative is not the same as being a distributor. In the first case, you will simply work on commission and you have to follow the commercial policy of the company of origin. Whereas, being a distributor means buying the company’s products and having total freedom on how you run your business (depending on the rules specified with the supplier).
  • Sales targets: In order not to disappoint the company or brand in question, you have to negotiate the lowest possible sales target. This way, you won’t run the risk of them underestimating your professionalism and instead, you’ll have a better chance of surprising the brand positively.
  • Pricing: Another of the most vital elements in order to be a good cosmetics distributor is to agree on a price with the company that will help you make money or, in other words, ensure optimal profit margins. In this case, it is essential to study your business plan perfectly to fight for the most competitive prices you want to get.
  • Marketing and sales costs: By nature, any commercial or marketing action you take to promote the brand’s products will benefit the brand in the short, medium or long term. In fact, we recommend you to make sure that the company participates in the commercial effort so that both are successful.

Once you have agreed on all the points outlined above, you can build a contract that promises to be mutually beneficial to both parties. Taking into account that, in addition to these key elements, it is appropriate to add some useful clauses that are favorable and beneficial. This is best done in conjunction with a specialist lawyer.

Among these favourable and important elements, we highlight the following:

  • The financial conditions: This refers to the payment terms which, above all, must be flexible.
  • The duration of the agreement: As with any agreement, an end date must be specified and when choosing one, it is best to opt for a permanent agreement. If this is not possible, the best thing to do is to renew it before it expires.
  • Exit conditions: Breaching certain conditions allows either party to terminate the agreement. Therefore, it is good to try to introduce some condition to be able to break the agreement, in case of any unfavorable situation.
  • The after-sales procedure: Don’t forget to detail important agreements about this procedure, especially when the products are defective from the factory.

What Is a Cosmetics Distributor?

The challenge starts after becoming a distributor of a brand.

  • Optimal communication strategies: You need to create a quality communication policy, depending on the cosmetics you are going to distribute. Either with classic advertising (on radio, television or press) or through a strategy based on opinion leaders, influencers and/or social networks.
  • Establish good procedures and practices in relation to the company: After signing the contract with the company, it is important to define efficient procedures and practices to operate in an agile and effective way in order to show the best distributor skills to the brand.
  • Go through trial and error processes until you find the key: As in any process, it is common that there are difficulties or frictions on both sides. But, this will allow you to experience trial and error processes with which it will be easier to refine your commercial actions to achieve good results and at the same time, improve the relationship with the company.
